The EU wants concessions from the US
The European Union wants some reimbursement after many online gambling sites have been forced to close their doors due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in the United States. The ban by the US does not comply with the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and many gaming operators throughout Europe have had to close their doors on the profitable US market. The US market was worth an estimated $15 billion which could be one of the reasons the WTO declared the UIGEA as unlawful because it targeted foreign casinos. “We need concessions that would be equal with the benefits lost,” said EU spokesperson. The EU officials are currently looking for other ways for the US to organize other trade sectors. Currently EU officials are measuring the loss to the European business but this matter will take time.
