£1 million bingo win for one lucky grandma

A lucky woman who wishe to remain nameless took home a huge bingo jackpot for over £1 million at the Gala Bingo club in Southernhay, Basildon, and received a standing ovation for her win.
“I am in total shock,” said the lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I am still trying to get my head round it and it just won’t sink in. I’ve never been a lucky person, only winning £10 or £20 in the past, nothing big ever.”
The 64-year-old grandmother of three couldn’t help but shake, literally, when the Gala Bingo staff told her she had won, and she decided it would be beest to ease her husband into the news.
“I telephoned my husband after the win and said: ‘I have won an awful lot of money. You had better come down now.’ Then I put the phone down so he couldn’t ask how much and I burst into tears,” the lucky woman said. “I asked the member of staff, who waited for him, to break the news very gently because of his heart condition.”
As most people when they win a sum of money like this have trouble coming to grips with the reality of the situation, but afterwards everyone goes through certain stages.
“I couldn’t sleep afterwards,” she said. “I gave up trying at 5:30 am and got up for a cup of tea. Later on I went out and cut the grass, the same as usual. I don’t know what else to do. It is too much for me to take in.”
Everyone at the bingo hall was very happy for the woman’s win and even gave her a standing ovation, which made for a really wonderful scene.
Mandy James, an observer to the big bingo win, explained: “You could see she was literally shaking in disbelief after they told her she’d won. They had to go and get her a drink to help calm her nerves. It was a lovely moment and she got a standing ovation.”
