9th January, 2008
12 men were charged with involvement into the illegal gambling business. They were running Costa-Rica based gambling web-site and a telephone call centre for bookies that would accommodate US customers.
US District Court in Manhattan has reported that the men will face gambling charges, conspiracy to engage in gambling and money laundering charges.
It has also been stated that the men could be a part of the network, a group of conspirators that were all operating from Costa Rica and charged weekly bookie fees of around $15 to $30 for each user the bookie would register with the group.
The group acquired millions of US dollars in revenues in space of 2 years.
