2009 Ashes Test Betting Odds
6th July, 2009
It’s an Ashes Summer this year, and cricket fans across the globe will be tuning in to watch one of the greatest tournaments in the history of the game.
This year the Ashes come to the UK, and will see title holders Australia play against competition rivals England in five test matches over two months.
With the first of the five test matches starting on Wednesday in Cardiff, online bookies have been giving odds on which of the two sides will hold the Urn in 2009.
Considering current form, it is not surprising that most bookmakers make Australia favourites going into the test series. BetFred and Blue Square both price England at 9/4 underdogs, while Ladbrokes and Coral price Australia at 11/8
The English test squad was announced at the weekend following the England Lions warm-up game against Australia. The surprise omission of the squad however came when Steve Harmison was not named in the squad. After taking six wickets in the English Lions warm-up game, many fans thought “he was a certain selection”.
However England coaches have opted for in-form players Graham Onion and Jimmy Anderson. Online bookies make Anderson favourite to be England’s top bowler in the test at 5/2, while Andrew Flintoff second favourite at 3/1
