888.com announces Poker Open V launch It’s back for the fifth year, the Poker Open V, hosted by 888.com, is expected to create a huge buzz among poker spectators and will reward one player with a $648,000 jackpot. The tournament brings together poker professionals and celebrities, all with their eyes set on the huge prize.

This year’s event will be televised by Sky TV at Maidstone studios from 27th October and 7th November, giving spectators an interesting view of the huge poker tournament.

“The 888.com Poker Open Championship is certainly a highlight in the poker calendar,” said Matt Robinson, marketing director for 888.com. “Now in its fifth year, the competition is attracting some of the best players in the world which makes for an even more competitive tournament than last year. The TV cameras will no doubt capture all the excitement and unexpected turns from start to finish.”

Players can qualify for the tournament at 888.com, which is offering up 35 seats for online amateurs, but the event will only have 108 entrants. Another 65 of the seats will be for poker professionals as well as 8 of the seats being taken by celebrities such as Ronnie O’Sullivan and Shane Warne.

Many are wondering what will make this year’s Poker Open different from the rest, but we’ll all just have to wait until it airs on Sky TV in 2009 from January through June. The show will be on every Tuesday night at 22:00. That is unless you make it to the tournament yourself through 888.com at online casino.
