A Drop in the Bingo Age
23rd April, 2009

According to new figures the average age of bingo players have fallen. The research collected from player’s stats and bingo records show that bingo is attracting more of the younger generation.
The misconception that bingo is a game solely for old ladies seems to be changing, with the average age having dropped from people in their early 50’s to people in their late 30’s.
Many industry analysts believe the reason behind the change in demographic is due to more young adults looking for an alternative to expensive nights out.
One Gala Bingo Hall in Peterborough even reported that due to it attracting a number of young people, its attendance has increased by 400%.
Mark Dowling, manager of Gala Bingo said, “The gambling industry is recession resilient, but not recession proof. People are still coming and having a night out. Perhaps they are not spending quite as much when they are here, but it’s still a fabulous night out. We’ve lost around 20 per cent of our business through the smoking ban, but people have started coming back. We probably won’t get back to the heady heights of a few years ago but the decline has been halted and we’re seeing an up-turn now.”
