ASA Bans Sexy Betting Ad
11th February, 2009
The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has been called in after a complaint from a member of the public.
This time the owner of the ‘offensive’ advert was ShortsandLongs.com. The advert in question supposedly showed a man in a car with two attractive women.
ShortsandLongs.com is a financial spread betting site that allows customers to place wagers on everything from shares and stocks to currency values.
The person who complained said they found it inappropriate and glamorised gambling on spread bets.
After investigating the allegation, the ASA deemed the advert to be unsuitable and banned it from be aired. The ASA ruleed that the ad “linked gambling with sexual success and enhanced attractiveness.”
However, a spokesman at Shortsand Longs.com, Andy Mackenzie, said “The simple fact of the matter is that ShortsandLongs.com actually reduces the risks of spread betting. All of our clients have free guaranteed stops so they know exactly what they are risking with each trade. In these difficult times, we feel that we are leading the way in responsible gambling rather than glamorising betting."
