ASA ban Online Bingo TV advert
7th April, 2009

Online Bingo operators are increasingly using TV media to advertising and promote their sites. Foxy, Gala and Tombola have all recently embarked on ambitious television campaigns with the hope of attracting new players.
However promoting online gaming sites has proven to be very difficult with several adverts being banned. Ladbrokes Casino had their award winning commercials taken off air after it received one complaint from a member of the public.
Tombola Bingo have faced a similar problem after their animated advertisement was claimed to attract and target children. The short commercial featured bright colours, fairground rides and cartoon images.
After reviewing the complaints, the ASA have concluded the adverts should not be shown again.
A statement from the ASA said, ”We noted there was also a reference to chat rooms where you could ‘make new friends’, which we considered would have particular appeal to older children and young persons.”
It went onto add, ”We noted that the brightly coloured and animated bingo balls had happy, smiling faces and were shown bouncing around the fairground and playing on the rides. We considered that, in some scenes, the bingo balls looked like brightly coloured sweets.”
