ASA bans six gambling adverts

25th February, 2008

As reported by ATE Online, the Advertising Standard Authority decided on 6 out of the 56 commercials with some relevance to gambling are not going to be allowed for airing, as they breach advertising codes.

None of six advertisements and the advertisers were revealed in the ASA report. Nevertheless, it has been confirmed that one of the six advertisers is definitely a bingo operator.

Despite the fact that UK has seen an introduction of softer regulations in terms of gambling advertising, i.e. it is allowed now; there are still guidelines that companies need to follow. ATE has stated that the most likely reasons for those six ads to have been banned is that they either promoted gambling as the means of improving self-image, self esteem or financial security. The other reason the ads could have been banned is the appeal to underaged children.

What came as an interesting discovery is that four out of six adverts banned came from the same advertiser. Would be very curious to find out which ones.
