ATP issues new gambling rules
19th November, 2007
As the accusations of match-fixing and illegal gambling fly around professional tennis, the governing body, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has issued new rules and regulations on gambling.
The ATP has given its players until the end of the year to report any gambling-related contacts from the past five years. Any players that fail to do so and get caught having broken any rules could face an undisclosed penalty. The organisation also ruled that all tennis players must report any information about gambling or match-fixing within 48 hours.
The rules were formulated and approved during a three-day board meeting that was held during the Shanghai Masters Cup, won by Roger Federer.
