American Magazine Calls Citizens to Reject Gambling

11th December, 2007

Conservative Citizen is a periodical for the Focus on The Family Action lobby group, which is strongly against gambling online as well as offline. The family Action lobby group is trying to get citizens voice their opinion for the UIGEA, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which restricts banks from accepting transactions to do with online gambling operators.

The mission statement, the magazine released demonstrates the views the publishers have on the gambling topic. "Gambling has attained unprecedented levels of acceptance, glamorisation and popularity in the United States. Once confined to the remote desert region of Nevada, gambling, in one form or another, is now legal in 48 of the 50 states. Utah and Hawaii remain the only exceptions. Citizens throughout the United States are beginning to see the trail of devastation gambling leaves in its wake," it says.

The theGoldenPalaceCasino.com had to pay $2 million for violating Canadian law, but in the last edition of Citizen this incident was described as a "drop in a bucket", which doesn’t have a chance of frightening other operators.

This is what Chad Hills, Analyst For Gambling Research And Policy at Focus on The Family Action, had to say about the matter: "We need citizens to submit comments to our Government about Internet gambling before Dec. 12. We have more than 800 casinos and 42 lotteries in the United States. The last place we need more gambling is in our homes."
