17th October, 2008

Rank announce encouraging results Many claimed that bingo halls would not be able to survive with the smoking ban, economic recession and increases in taxation. However Rank, the group which own the famous Mecca Bingo brand, have seen as rise in player spending from last year.

Spending has increased on a per person basis up to 8pc, leading to a 2pc rise in sales compared with a 12pc slump in the first 41 weeks of the year. Mecca have long been involved in land based bingo but have struggled to make money in recent years due to government legislation.

The new figures show that players are now spending more when they play however player numbers has not increased. Many halls have produced smoking areas and improved the food and drink services they provide.

Finally some good news for land based Bingo Halls!

The growth of online bingo has also resulted in land based halls suffering, however it is believed halls will always have a core group of regualr players.

Mecca Bingo also provide a online site with several special offers and promotions, such as a £50 sign up bonus!
