Arsenal's Transfers and online betting odds

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended his recent transfer activities and insisted that the club will not panic buy this summer.

Within the past week, the Gunners have sold Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City for around £40 million. Even though the club has been linked with various players, only the services of Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax have been captured for £10m.

Many Arsenal supporters have become increasingly frustrated with the fact that a major trophy has not been captured within the past four years.

Wenger has always preferred to develop his young rising stars, as opposed to splashing the cash to sign experienced players. Numerous comments have been made that Arsenal’s squad is not big or flexible enough to compete with their domestic rivals over the course of a season.

Some argue that youngsters like Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere are not ready to compete at the highest level week in and week out yet. The spotlight on the club's transfer policy also increased with the news that influential French International Samir Nasri will miss the start of the season due to a serious knee injury.

In response, Arsene Wenger was quoted on Arsenal’s official website saying, “I feel we are strong enough but if we can add then we will do it... In England people think that all the problems can be sorted out by buying players. If we need to add then we will. We have money available so for us it is now [important] to spend it in the right way when we do it or if we do it.”

To win the 2009-10 Barclays Premier League, Arsenal are 8/1 with Bet 365 and 15/2 with Blues.
