Asian Poker Tour gets support for Macau Festival
27th April, 2009
This year’s Asian Poker Tour (APT) event in Macau is set to be an extravaganza, after it was announced last week that the event will be extended from 6 to 12 days .
The festival will start on August 12th and run through to the 23rd, with the first side event also being held during the 12 days.
Last Year saw 20 year-old Yevgeniy Timoshenko win the $500,000 main event, beating contestants from 40 different countries, including pros Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan.
Organizers chose to make the Macau event a festival by adding the extra six days, after last year’s event was hailed as a “huge success”.
The APT also announced that some of the web’s most popular online poker rooms and networks, including PartyPoker.com and PKR.com, have committed to signing up to host qualifiers and send players for the event.
Chris Parker, CEO for the APT said, “We are very encouraged by the enthusiasm of our partners to send players and we look forward to welcoming more online poker rooms on board,”
The buy-in for the Macau main event is set at $4,300, with ‘sit and go’ and ‘high-limit’ games also running at the same time.
