Betfair head for Oz

30th October, 2007

Around a quarter of Australians who use Betfair, come from New South Wales and the government is concerned they coudl be missing out on revenue. Already licensed in Tasmania, it is easy for Aussies to find and use.

Gaming and Racing Minister Graham West is said to be looking into ways of using Betfair and other bookmakers to contribute not only to the racing industry in New South Wales but also to public amenities such as schools and hospitals.

However opposition to this idea say that it woudl cost the industry million of dollars in lost revenue as Betfaor only pay 24 cents per $100 bet compared to the $1 dollar by bookmakers.
