Betfair ready for Regulated gaming in U.S.
5th February, 2009
Betfair.com is one of Europe's most popular online betting sites, attracting a wide base of customers from around the continent. With U.S online gaming laws still relatively unclear, many believe that new President Obama will legalize the Industry allowing for a new gambling market to grow.
Some believe this could take place in the next few months, however Edward Wray Co founder of Betfair, believes the full legalization won't take place for at least another five years.
He commented on the situation, "I think the country will move to regulation but it may take five years, it may take ten years, when the U.S. does open up, we'll be ready."
Industry experts believe that Obama administration could see the benefits of having a regulated system in the current economic climate.
Currently several European sites accept U.S players however Betfair is for EU members only. If the U.S market does open up then several large gaming firms will be looking to attract a new customers in a potentially huge new market.
