Betting no longer limited to sports
19th January, 2009
Traditionally, when we thought of betting, we may have thought of horse racing or football. Nowadays this is not so much the case, as more and more bets are hedged on current affairs, politcs and most notably TV. Whilst sports bets remain hugely popular, there is no denying that the number of bets for TV programmes has increased no end. Last year the nation was gripped by Strictly Come Dancing, X-Factor and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here- for which the odds and potential bets were never ending. Nowadays with TV shows we can bet who will be the winner, whether the winner will be male or female, who the top male and female will be, who will be the next person to be eliminated, and the list goes on.
These are some of the lastest reality TV odds:
- Who will win Celebrity Big Brother? Verne Troyer 8/15 (stanjames)
Gender of the winner? Male 1/10 (coral)
Who will win Dancing On Ice? Ray Quinn 1/1 (totesport)
- Gender of winner? Male 4/7 (william hill)
By incorporating current affairs and TV into everyday betting, bookies are adding new dimensions to the world of betting and potentially including and encouraging a different type of person to place bets- these days, betting is not limited to sporting fans but plays on the interests of almost everyone.
