Betting odds for the Mercury Music Prize Award 2009
22nd July, 2009
There is a high level of quality in this year’s nomination for the Mercury Music Prize award 2009. The artists, who usually see a massive boost in sales as a result of being nominated, have no particular genre that they can be assigned to but instead create music that blurs across boundaries.
Previous winners of the award include the likes of Pulp, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, Artic Monkeys and Dizee Rascal. Last years winners Elbow released their fourth album the Seldom Seen Kid that has been their biggest hit to date and revitalized their career.
The line up for the awards has been released and the only act that has appeared on the line up before is Bat For Lashes which are currently second favourite for this year. All the acts deserve a place in the awards and whilst online bookies can offer betting odds, the panel of judges often uncover quirky deciding factors that cannot be predicated.
Online bookies Ladbrokes have released their odds putting Florence And The Machine as favourites at 5/2. Following closely as second favourite is Bat For Lashes at 11/4. Third favourite are The Horrors at 6/1 just ahead of Friendly Fires who are being backed at 7/1. La Roux are given slightly longer odds of 10/1 and longer still Kassabian are at 12/1. Least favourite to win are Led Bib who share joint odds with Lisa Hannigan at 33/1.
The frustrating thing for bookies on music events such as this is that the judges have the deciding vote and do not go on past sales or past awards, so everything could change on the night!
