Bingo tours US Theatres

Playing bingo can leave players with many differing emotions that can change in an instant. Frustration gives way to joy and another player becomes a winner.

This is a regular occurrence for bingo fans and thanks to one director, the non-bingo playing public of Cornwall, Ontario will be able to see the drama unfold.

Dave Barnes has captured the mix of feelings in his latest work, “the Queen of Bingo”, presented by Seaway Valley Theatre Company, the Canadian non-profit amateur theatre group.

According to Mr Barnes the play is about two sisters, with very little in their lives, that play bingo in search of some excitement. “It's all done very tongue-in-cheek with self-deprecating humour. They talk about things like hot flashes, dieting and, of course, the scale.”

The play was first produced in 1995 and was written by Jeanne Michels and Phyllis Murphy. However, since then it has proved successful and is also currently on tour in America.

Barnes stated that, “There's a real sense of irony which many men and women, will identify with in the play. For instance, the week before Babe receives a phone call from Coach Anderson whom she really wants to date. But she doesn't want to date him the way she is, so instead she just eats more.”

The Play is currently being shown at the Spotlight Hall City Limits, in Ontario, Canada. Tickets cost $15.
