Blurred gaming laws

Online gambling is banned in the Netherlands. However, a 33 year old Dutch woman scooped €4.3million last Sunday and was allowed to keep a large proportion of the winnings. The woman described her reaction as being of, “disbelief, surprise, but mainly joy."

Any form of online gambling is illegal in the country, however operator Unibet are paying out. Ivo Hommes, Dutch justice ministry spokesperson, said that, "this is a clear contravention of the gambling law”.The Dutch government is going to seize €1.1million of the winnings in taxes.

It has been reported that around 400,000 Dutch citizens or 3.8% of the population spend approximately 90-280million Euros per annum.
