Bookies save millions as Jedward are eliminated from X-Factor
23rd November, 2009

As the weeks went by it seemed that the public began to believe that the last standing group, known as Jedward, may actually go on to be crowned the winners of X-Factor 2009. However, the twins that are compared to Marmite, ‘Love them, or hate them”, have finally been removed from the competition!
The Irish twins have done extremely well to reach as far as they have and as judge Dannii Minogue highlighted in last night’s result show, “Is this a singing contest?” It appeared that this question startled the other judges and host Dermot O’Leary as nobody could answer the question. Minogue went on to say, “On the premise that it’s a singing competition I would have to send home John and Edward.”
Although the judges made themselves very clear at the beginning of the competition about their hate for Jedward, it seemed that throughout the recent media frenzy, the 18 year olds had warmed on the panel, and as they ended the pairs dreams, they emphasised their like for the two, with Simon Cowell admitting, “I’m actually going to miss you” and Cheryl Cole explaining, “Boys, I have really loved you over the past few weeks.”
The duo took the bad news very well and even managed to praise rival Olly Murs who found himself in the bottom two against the Irish pair. Jedward went on to say, “Olly deserved to go through. It’s been a crazy experience. It’s like deadly, it’s like so cool.”
While the twins may have been flooded with disappointment last night, bookies have been overwhelmed with multi million pound relief! A spokesman from bookies Coral explained, “Jedward being voted off is a huge relief for us as them being voted off has saved Coral a payout of £10 million.”
Although the pair has been eliminated from the X-Factor winner betting odds, there are still lots of other ways you can wager money on them! Ladbrokes are offering odds of 7/1 that the duo will have a number 1 single in 2010 and evens that they will become the new Ant and Dec in the children’s world, hosting their own kids show.
A spokesman from Ladbrokes explained, “Jedward’s departure was a huge relief for bookies, but Christmas number one has the potential to be another banana skin for the bookies considering the twins ever growing profile.”
Ladbrokes reported that one punter lost his chance of winning £10,000 as he put his wager on when the odds for the twins were as long as 25/1 compared to their 4/1 that they were priced at just before they were eliminated from the show. A spokesman from Ladbrokes explained, “The twins gave us a bit of a giggle but also a massive headache. If they'd gone all the way it would have been the worst result for bookies in the history of TV betting”.
The new favourite to be crowned the winner of X-Factor 2009 is Joe McElderry who is best priced with Ladbrokes at 13/8.
