British poker player pitches for 65,000 on BBC1s TV show Dragons Den
24th July, 2009
British poker player JJ Hazan appeared on BBC1’s hit TV programme Dragon’s Den. He offered the entrepreneurs a massive 40% equity on his tournament winnings for the first year. However this seemed to be his fault as the Dragons may have been more inclined to invest if he had offered equity for longer or even a life time.
Hazan presented a perfect pitch and even offered the Dragons a quick game of poker. Peter Jones dropped out almost immediately and Deborah Meaden followed shortly after explaining that she didn’t want to invest in something she didn’t know enough about, James Caan didn’t seem very interested from the beginning and politely pulled out.
Whilst keen poker players Theo Paphitis and Duncan Bannatyne seemed more interested, Theo explained he would rather be the one doing the gambling if he was to give so much away where as Duncan thought the investment was too much and didn’t want to part with his money but seemed excited to support Hazan when he took to the tables.
It seemed that Hazan’s vague approach to the Dragon’s lost him the pitch. He indeed described that he was a ‘very good player’ but failed to mention why he was. He left out his abilities ignoring his second place prize at the Dutch Masters Classic in Amsterdam.
It appeared that Hazan made the whole investment look like too much of a gamble for the Dragon’s and this has resulted in Hazan only making $9,000 since the start of his new TV show.
