Casino Machines help Ladbrokes

Thanks to the recent weather conditions, a lot of punters were left staring at snowbound and waterlogged racecourses.

In total so far some 59 race meetings had to be abandoned a record for the first seven weeks of the year.

Nevertheless Ladbrokes, Britain’s biggest bookmaker said that takings in its betting officers were up 1%.

According to Ladbrokes chief executive Chris Bell said “The start to this year has been dreadful – the record number of cancellations being three times higher than for the average winter.”

Reports today revealed just how much the business is underpinned by the casino machines in its betting shops, profits were slightly higher for 2008 at 3243 million.

Chris Bell was also quoted as saying "There is a lot of talk about how the economy and rising unemployment would affect our business. What we are seeing is that it isn't. Our betting shop customers are low-stake punters who are continuing to enjoy their hobby."
