Casino iphone card counting
18th February, 2009
In early February 2009, the Nevada Gaming Control Board circulated a memorandum to casinos warning them about a certain iPhone application- the Blackjack Card Counter.
Players often try to card count, that is, to track the ratio of high value cards to low value cards. It is said that a high ratio card benefits the player, while a low ratio card benefits the dealer.
The strategy of card counting is not deemed an offence in Nevada. However, when a player uses a device to help them card count, it is against the law and can carry a custodial sentence of up to 6 years or a fine of $10,000 for first time offenders.
Randall Sayre, who is on the Nevada Gaming Control Board, said “Once this program is installed on the phone through the iTunes Web site, it can make counting cards easy."
"Just as a reminder, use of this type of program or possession of a device with this type of program on it -- with the intent to use it -- in a licensed gaming establishment, is a violation of NRS 465.075,"
