Casinos in Competition

As we make our way through the first month of 2009, the year many economists said would see the worst recession in decades maybe being as bad a the great depression.

It seems supermarkets and high street businesses are not the only companies in competition with each other, as a report from Michigan, states the rivalry between to casino resorts heats up.

The Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City had enjoyed a monopoly on the area for some time until 2007, when Four Winds opened in neighbouring Michigan, and witnessed their revenue figures drop and continued to do so.

Now however with the opening of their new hotel on Thursday, the Blue Chips Casino hopes to re-attract punters away from the Four Winds. The 22 story hotel comes are plans to revitalise the casinos resort were grown up. The new structure comes with a $130 million price tag and glass walls, and new modern furnishing and decor.

With the casinos being only 10 miles apart from one-another, their appearance and customer satisfactions as become more of a focus point. More so than usual casinos, where a monopoly over the area’s gambling businesses might be held.

The Four Winds is owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, and contains a luxury resort, something up until now, that Blue Chip has been unable to compete with.
