China's Online Gaming Industry expected to grow in 2009

Despite the world-wide financial crisis it seems the online gaming industry, especially in China, was not hit too hard. For 2008 the Chinese online gaming industry saw a revenue increase of nearly 77% to $2.69 billion, compared to 2007.
According to Sun Shoushan, vice director of General Administration of Press and Publication, revenues for the online gaming industry totals more than, television entertainment programs as well as films and publications of audio-visual products combined. The Chinese gaming industry also reportedly contributed directly to the Telecomm and IT sectors.
China’s online gaming exports saw growth in 2008, with more than 30 different online games, developed by 15 Chinese companies, exported to 40 countries and regions, equating to a 30% increase on 2007 to nearly $71 million.
Sun Shoushan also stated that the volume of China’s original online gaming programs is likely to exceed $100 million in 2009.
