Crown Casino flooded with Counterfeit Chips
28th April, 2009
An employee who found more counterfeit playing chips yesterday has left bosses at Crown Casino even more embarrassed, as the scam continues to make headlines.
The near perfect counterfeit chips have sparked major worries for Casino managers, who admitted losses could be in the millions, after it was unsure how long they had been in circulation.
A member of the casino staff raised the alarm last week after finding a counterfeit playing chip while in the highly secure counting room at the casino. It was reported yesterday that more have been found again.
Crown Casino spokesperson, Gary O’Neil said, “While doing routine checks, one of the officers detected what appeared to be fake $1000 chips.”
Managers then recalled all of the $1000 chips on the casino floor, in an effort to limit any further frauds. According to Mr Gary O’Neil, so far only $42,000 dollars worth of counterfeit chips have been found.
Crown Casino has also changed all $1000 chips to a lighter colour in order to stop counterfeits from being used again.
Unfortunately it is still unknown who is behind the counterfeit, however an investigation is currently ongoing.
