EU to standardize Gambling regulations
25th November, 2008
The creation of European Union has resulted in several new pieces legislation being enforced with the aim of creating a more harmonized economic, politic and social environment for members.
In spite of this online gambling is one area by which little progress has been made, in terms of standardized legislation and regulations.
The EU document obtained by the Reuters news agency stated: "While the legal frameworks differ, there are significant similarities in the member states' objectives as regards gambling and betting."
Online Gambling is an industry which needs strong regulation. In the US online gaming is illegal however sites still operate without regulation.
Currently different gambling laws are present in different EU nations however a unified approach would make advertising, marketing and the software specification the same.
France who currently hold the Presidency, are due to be submitting their draft regulation next month however many believe they are using a delaying tactic.
