Eastgate crowned WSOP main event 2009 Champion
11th November, 2008
The WSOP main event is now over with Peter Eastgate winning the final table. The 22 year old from Denmark, has become the youngest ever player to win the competition and will take home an incredible $9 million.
He beat Russian Ivan Demidov early Tuesday morning to take the this years title. Earlier in the week Dennis Phillips was the last American to be knocked out after entering the final 9 table with the highest amount of chips. However he was unable to continue his winning streak and eventually feel victim to Eastgate aggressive playing style.
Eastgate won the event with a Ace to 5 straight, beating the two pair help by Demidov. The young Dane has beat Phil Hellmuth's record, becoming the youngest player to ever win the WSOP. Hellmuth won at the age of 24 in 1989.
Second place Demidov won't be too down in the dumps though, as he will take home an impressive $5,809,595 for his second place finish.
