Formula One Rows Rage On
19th June, 2009
Fans of Formula one racing will be full of excitement this weekend as the Championship descends on the UK. The British Grand Prix takes place at Silverstone this Sunday, and will see Brawn GP driver Jenson Button aim to win his seventh race this season and first ever on home tarmac.
With it being the last British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the occasion will be even more special for Button, who is 5/6 favourite to win.
However problems off the track have sparked new fears that Formula One could be in for big changes next year. It was announced late last night that teams maybe preparing to withdraw from the F1 2010 season and start a rival competition.
The announcement follows rows between the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) and F1 Boss Max Mosely, over his proposed voluntary budget cap for next year.
According to BBC Sport, a FOTA statement read, “Since the formation of Fota last September the teams have worked together and sought to engage the FIA and commercial rights holder (Bernie Ecclestone), to develop and improve the sport” "We've no alternative than to commence preparation for a new championship."
With the 2010 F1 season in the balance, supporters are hoping that the situation is resolved soon. As a rival competition would spell the end of Formula One as we know it.
