From slots to casinos

4th January, 2008

It has been announced that a Rhode Island lawmaker will file a legislation that will make two slot parlors turn into the fully functioning casinos.

San Bento, a representative is also waiting on the result from the voting on the bill to let Twin River and The Newport Grand to get a licence to operate around the clock. The verdict on the matter should be announced in two weeks.

It is difficult to predict what the voting decision will be, yet last year voters in Lincoln, Rhode Island have rejected the idea of 24 hour gambling at Twin Rivers in a nonbinding referendum last year.

The representative said he is keen to move quickly on the gambling measures when asked about the matter by the Cape Cod Times. Bento feels it is the best solution to an estimated 450 million budget deficit.

Twin Rivers casino is looked after by the same managers that are also busy with the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe on a proposed casino in Middleborough.

Devil Patrick, a bill governor is yet to be heard by the legislature. Last year he filed for three casinos to open in Massachusetts.
