Gala Bingo in Dispute with Player
14th May, 2009
Controversy has been sparked in a Gala Bingo hall in Wythenshawe, Manchester, after a 63 year bingo player protested against the outcome of a bonus prize.
The dispute arose when Ms Prendergast claimed that she had shouted ‘House’ when her final number was called, and apparently not hearing her the caller continued to call numbers. Ms Prendergast said that she had shouted and waved her hand to get the callers attention, but he did not stop, and carried on calling numbers until another player shouted house.
Understandably Ms Prendergast was upset when she pleaded her case and staff at the hall refused to pay her. It was then that she decided to protest by not moving from her seat.
Talking to the Evening News Ms Prendergast said, “the Caller must have heard me. Everyone around did, and i even have witnesses on the other side of the bingo hall you heard me. Even the steward said he heard me.”
A Gala Bingo spokesperson commented on the incident saying, “We fully investigated the matter and concluded that a mis-claim occurred. We informed the customer of our decision and let her know the complaints procedure if she wanted to take the matter further.”
Ms Prendergast has decided that she will file a complaint to the Gambling Commission stating that the dispute is not money related and more a matter of principal.
