Gala Placed In Corporate Responsibility Index
7th June, 2010

Gala Coral has been awarded a place in the Business in the community 2009 corporate responsibility index. The company achieved Bronze in the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility after their award winning community partnership with Sue Ryder Care, environmental strategy and leading position on responsible gambling.
The index helps businesses to integrate and improve their business operations by providing an approach to managing, measuring and reporting on the business’ impact on both society and the environment. By achieving Bronze, the company has clearly illustrated their corporate responsibility across their leading brands which include: Coral, Gala bingo, Gala Casino and Eurobet.
Dominic Harrison, CEO of Gala Coral Group said: “We’re delighted to have been included in the Corporate Responsibility Index for the first time and we are aiming higher as we continue to work on clear corporate responsibility goals.
“We were highly commended for our strong community partnerships where we have worked hard to raise over £1m for Sue Ryder Care. We also gained accolades for developing our strategy on environmental stewardship, where we have set and exceeded clear targets on carbon reduction.”
He added: “Business in the Community also recognised our leading relationships with key stakeholders in the field of responsible gambling which remains an important area of focus for the Group as well as for our transparency on Corporate Responsibility reporting.”
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said: “I congratulate Gala Coral on achieving Bronze in the 2009 Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index. Companies participating in the Index may be at different stages of their responsible business journey, but they have all demonstrated that they take these issues seriously and are leading the field in ensuring this is just how they do business. We believe this is imperative if we are to strengthen and stabilise our businesses and economy.”
