Gambling Cheat Faces Jail Sentence

26th February, 2008

Steven Stotts has been sentenced to 5 years in jail after the court found him guilty of cheating at BlackJack. Stotts was arrested at the Diamond Jo Worth Casino after he was accused of both ‘capping’ and ‘pinching’ bets.

‘Capping’ is when a player adds chips to his stake once they know the outcome, in order to increase their pay off. ‘Pinching’ is the opposite, a player withdraws chips before the dealer collects them in order to decrease losses.

According to court proceedings, video footage shows six instances of Stotts ‘capping’ when the odds favoured him, or when he knew the outcome, and one of him ‘pinching’.

Steven Stotts, 57, was sentenced to five years imprisonment on the charge of Class D Felony, at Worth County District Court, and has received a suspended fine of $750.
