Gambling Commission to combat Match Fixing
10th March, 2009
Match fixing has always been a problem for professional sports, whether its tennis, football or horse racing.
The government's gambling commission is currently looking into ways of combat this problem, which they describe as, "as great a risk to the integrity of sports as doping, That is why the sports have been campaigning for a greater regulation of sports betting for some time".
The commission studied 47 cases of match fixing which took place last year and are determined to find a solution to solution to this continuing problem.
One proposal is the idea that professional athletes would be required to report every bet they make on weekly basis.
Random checks could also be introduced on bookie accounts. Former Portsmouth FC manager, Harry Redknapp was arrested late last year on suspicion of match fixing, however he was later released without being charged.
