Gambling Industry Beats Tourism by ROI

7th December, 2007

The study on the yields which reviewed different sectors in the tourism market reveals that gambling activities have nearly three times better return on investment compared to tourism sector.

Between 1999 and 2003 racing, gambling, lotteries and various other recreational activities such as bungy jumping and guided walks bring their organizers the highest return of 15.9%, which makes some think that tourism operators might make more money by simply investing in stock market or putting money in a bank.

Retail industry came out pretty strong too, at 14.3% followed by the travel agencies at 14%.

This is what Tourism Industry Association chief executive, Fiona Luhrs, had to say: “the findings will be used to develop programmes and resources to help businesses improve their returns, attract investment, cope with market volatility and generate better profits”.
