Gaming Operators Create Charitable Organisation
16th February, 2009
Yesterday the Sunday Times reported that grassroots sports in the UK could be given a financial boost.
According to the newspaper, some of the biggest names in gambling are expected to come together to form a charity for grassroots sports.
Betfair, Sportech and Labrokes have already agreed to commit to the charity which hopes to raise £10 million.
The charity aims to help promote grassroots sports and develop sporting facilities. Many hope that the charity will fund a new generation of Olympic athletes.
Betfair, Sportech and Ladbrokes are confident that they can encourage other gaming operators to join the charity- this would bring even more money into the sports trust.
It is thought that the government have approved the idea of the charity and that a formal announcement will shortly be made.
