Government to create new Responsible gambling Commission
24th February, 2009
The government are set to create a 'Responsible Gambling Commission' to help deal with the regulations and schemes already put in place by the Gambling Commission.
This new organization will act as an advisory commission studying current regulation, individual cases, as well as setting up schemes and national campaigns to encourage responsible gambling.
The growth of the online gaming industry has doubled the work load for the current Gambling Commission who are having to monitor both land based and internet gaming sites.
Baroness Neuberger will head the new commission which will include several gambling industry experts.
She said in a statement, “I am very pleased to be able to bring together so many talented and experienced individuals,' . 'Their collective expertise is extraordinary and, while our remit is challenging, I am confident that, together, we will deliver a robust British strategic framework for research, education and treatment.”
The move shows how committed the government is to tackling problem gambling in the UK.
