Growth For The Isle of Man Online Gaming Sector

A survey of the Isle of Man's leading egaming companies estimated the online gaming sector in the area grew by 30% last year. Furthermore, forecasts for the sector indicate that this growth will accelerate to 40% in 2009.

The survey was conducted by Manx e-Gaming Association (MeGA), and found that the growth of the egaming sector in the Isle of Man was a big factor in the Isle of Man's economic growth.

The head of egaming development at the Isle of Man’s Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), Garth Kimber, said, “Egaming in the Isle of Man is now a well-developed, highly-diverse sector."

"Furthermore, the eight licenses approved in 2008, plus the large number of applications for licenses in 2009, is a good leading indicator of the further growth we can expect to see in the future. Businesses are coming here because the Isle of Man genuinely has much to offer.”

The chairman of MeGA, John Webster, added: “Egaming appears to be vibrant despite the global recession. It may be that people are opting to enjoy gaming online as an inexpensive substitute to other forms of leisure.”

He also added “MeGA is delighted that the Isle of Man has provided a sound base for our businesses to grow and in turn the Island has benefited from this success in terms of quality employment opportunities, GDP growth and government revenue.”
