Housing Chief Jailed for Theft

Estate manager Jean Harris used people described as socially needy insisting that they pay their rent in cash so that she could sustain her bingo and casino machine obsessions.
Harris has admitted 26 counts of theft between December 03 and November 06. Nineteen separate people gave statements, explaining how Harris effectively stole a total of £63,721 but some former employees gave evidence to suggest considerably more. Harris is estimated to have stolen over £100,000.
The offences, described as "particularly mean" along with the admittance of six counts of deception and two of false accounting have earned Ms Harris nine months in jail.
