Irish Plan Brand New Casino
30th November, 2009

Investors have found an opportunity to increase profits and tourism to Ireland. Plans have been drawn up to build a huge 29 acre tourism complex priced at €430 million in Dowdallshill, Dundalk, off the M1 Dublin- Belfast motorway.
The complex includes a large casino which will bring around 1,198 full time jobs to the area in addition to 388 casual jobs. Other attractions in the complex include: ski slopes, a 100-plus bed family hostel, an 110,000-sq ft indoor concert arena, a bowling alley, cinema, a children's zone, a 40,000-sq ft surf and swim centre, bars, restaurants, and sports and leisure stores. The complex is expected to see up to 6 million visitors per year.
Due to current Irish gambling laws the casino and hotel is expected to be the last thing built, as the construction is expected to happen in stages.
Currently gambling in Ireland is illegal however a loophole in the law has been found to allow private members only ‘gaming clubs’. The build is based on the assumption that current casino legislation will be altered in the near future. Despite this the gambling industry in Ireland is rumoured to be worth over €3.6 billion with online gambling being the most popular form.
The successful building of the casino in addition to the right legislation may take business away from the online casinos; however the money collected by the state is likely to stay the same.
