Joe Cada Wins WSOP 2009
10th November, 2009

Joe Cada has become the youngest WSOP champion at the tender age of 21. The community college dropout emerged from 6,500 hopefuls to scoop the $8.55million prize in Las Vegas.
Cada beat 46 year old Darvin Moon, a self employed logger from Maryland, to capture the no-limit Texas hold ‘em world championship. The win comes a year after Denmark’s Peter Eastgate won at the age of 22.
Cada started playing online poker at 16 and left college in Michigan to become a professional gambler. This was the first time that the player had competed in the main event, the richest event of over 50 tournaments on the circuit.
Cada was close to elimination on more than one occasion during the longest final table in history. At one point he was down $2.3million in chips. However he worked his way back and came to the final with $136million in chips whilst his opponent has only $59million.
Moon only started playing poker 2 years ago and receives a $5.2million prize for coming second.
The $10,000 buy-in tournament began back in July with 6,494 players. After an eight day tournament nine players advanced to the next table which wasn’t finished until this month to allow TV coverage to catch up. The top nine finishers were all guaranteed at least $1.26 million.
