Kansas City Gamblers say 'What Recession'
11th February, 2009
Kansas City, Missouri, must be doing something right as casinos in the area are reporting record admissions for January
According to the Kansas City Star, gamblers have been “flocking” to casinos in the metro area and have been spending serious cash. It is this report that has lead some newspapers to write articles with headlines such as “What Recession”.
In contrast, neighbouring states Illinois and Iowa has reported dramatic slumps in their revenue- Illinois is also having to simultaneously cope with a newly enforced smoking ban.
A spokesperson at the Missouri Gaming Commission, stated that “The latest financial data from the Missouri Gaming Commission suggests after 15 years of legalised gambling, the high rollers finally may be coming to play in Missouri.
The difference between Missouri and it’s neighbouring states seems to be that Missouri voters repealed loss limits, that subsequently artificially capped gamblers buy-in of table game chips and slot machine credit at $500 every 2 hours.
