According to reports from eGaming ReviewLadbrokes is to launch an online sports book to target the South African market.
This is a joint venture with casino group KaiRo who will act as Ladbrokes’ marketing partners throughout their endeavors in the African continent.
Subject to approval, Ladbrokes will be able to advertise free across South Africa through the most popular mediums. The company is hoping to have Ladbrokes.co.za ready for June and the World Cup.
If Ladbrokes are approved by the Western Cape Province of South Africa, they will follow in the footsteps of Victor Chandler who will soft launch its South African sports book on 1st March in preparation for the world cup.
In May 2009, 888’s Dragonfish also signed a deal to supply a sportsbook product to Phumelela Gold Enterprises (PGE), the South African pari mutuel operator.
Ladbrokes chief executive Christopher Bell said: “This is an opportunity to capitalise on a developing market.”
According to data business H2 Gambling Capital, 2009 saw the South Africa online gaming market generate total gross win of approximately ZAR320m (£29.6m). It has been predicted that this could double during 2010, with more and more companies moving onshore and with the World Cup taking place there.
