Make or break for UK Bingo Halls
9th July, 2009

UK bingo has had a tough time in recent years with the closure of many halls around the country. Once packed bingo venues are now struggling to cope with a fall off in visitor numbers, as more decide to play online at home.
The recent increase in taxation on halls as resulted in uproar from industry members. The recent budget announcement resulted in the bingo industry being taxed a huge 22%.
Numerous operators and industry bosses have held demonstrations in London, calling for the government to review the increase claiming it is unfair and sexist. Bingo is dominated by women and other more male orientated gambling sectors such as poker and betting have not received the same rise in tax.
There is general support from backbenchers and MP’s who agree that the increase in unfair and the UK bingo industry will wait and hope that amendments are made.
Bingo is still a strong aspect of British culture, whether Mr Darling likes it or not!
