Metro Launches Mobile Betting
1st October, 2009

Free commuter newspaper, the Metro, is launching a new mobile sportsbook product with Blue Square and Mkodo (a mobile betting software company). According to eGaming Review.
The product is to be called MEBet Mobile and is a branded mobile site that’s in line with The Metro’s other online services. It will be promoted via The Metro’s other interactive activities in print, online and SMS.
The Metro is published by Associated Newspapers who also print The Daily Mail. The free publication targets people who utilize public transport in 14 UK cities that include: London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester.
Mkodo provides mobile betting solutions to operators including Blue Square and Sky Bet. The company will be using Blue Squares sportsbook offering for The Metro’s mobile betting.
Mark Gibson, Mkodo’s business development manager said, “This mobile sportsbook complements Metro’s other mobile products and we expect this to be very popular with readers.”
This isn’t Metro’s first step into social media and gaming, as they have hosted a social gaming platform for the players of Sportech’s New Football pool’s predictions game in addition to other newspapers The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mail.
The newspaper is the third brand to launch a mobile betting product since August. Previous deals include mobile betting supplier, Mfuse and Nuts magazine that launched a white label portal in addition to launching an online gaming product with Monkey magazine.
