13th July, 2009
According to an article at Egrmagazine , the amount of poker players involving themselves with other forms of real money gambling games has more than doubled over the past 2 years.
The PPR (Poker Players Research) have provided data which suggests that up to 42% of the 20 million real money poker players also engage in other forms of online gambling, which suggests a 20% increase from last year.
The majority of this growth has occurred outside of the US due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act restricting US growth in this sector.
There has also been a 55% increase in the amount of poker players outside of the US engaging in other forms of online gaming, meaning that over half of real money poker players also involve themselves in other forms of gambling, this growth is reported by PPR to be strongest in France, Scandinavia and Germany.
The strongest gambling market which appeals to poker players is reported to be the online sports betting market, in which PPR reports that 28% of poker players involve themselves in, up from 14% last year, with at least 10% of these placing weekly bets.
