Norway ban online Gambling
15th December, 2008
The Norwegian government last week banned online gambling, in a similar piece of legislation which was introduced to American federal law in 2006. The Scandinavian country has made it illegal for citizens to deposit money into online gaming sites who are also banned from taking part in financial transactions with customers.
In the US the law has been strongly opposed by millions of online poker players and gamers, who believe it is an individuals right to decide if they want to exchange money online whilst gambling.
The news of Norway following in the footsteps of the US may have damaged the proposed universal EU legislation which would see all countries in the Union adopting the same regulations and laws.
The Norwegian Government however are likely to face several difficulties enforcing the law which has proved problematic in the US. Several sites continue to provide illegal gambling services and some Norwegian players may simply decide to play at a site which is based outside of Norway.
