ONLINE BETTING ODDS FOR THE NEXT NORTHAMPTON MANAGER

Earlier this week Northampton Town confirmed that Stuart Gray has left the club after dragging the team to relegation from League One. The team have tried to start again in the bottom division but after a 3-1 home defeat continued a bad run of performance for the club, it forced Gray to put an end to his 2 and a half years with the Cobblers.

The Chairman of Northampton David Cardoza explained that, "It is with a heavy heart that we, the club, and Stuart Gray have come to this decision but it is necessary to consider what is in the best interests of the club both long term and to try and win promotion this season.”

Despite Gray’s efforts to strengthen the club by bringing in new players, the results have still be very disappointing for the team and it seems that this was the only option the club had left so that they can now focus their efforts on winning a promotion.

It appears that there is always a time when a manager has to admit defeat and move on for the benefit of the club and its players and this is Gray’s time. The former captain and assistant manager, Ian Sampson is temporarily in charge of the team and it has been stressed that the club want to take their time to make sure that they pick the right man for the job.

There has been a lot of speculation as to who will become the next manager and Northampton have confirmed that they have not ruled anybody in or out yet, so it seems that the position is open to anyone making the bookies jobs a little harder to predict the right person!

Victor Chandler have revealed that they think that Mark Cooper is the clear favourite to take on the challenge as he is currently in charge of Lettering Town and has previously managed Tamworth and is backed at 2/1. Second favourite is Colin Calderwood who has had previous experience with the club before as well as the likes of Nottingham Forest and he is currently backed at 6/1 also with VC Bet.

Other possibilities that are still worth a bet is Ian Sampson, who could be asked to make his temporary position permanent and it seems like this would be a great opportunity for the club as he has great experience and understands the way that it works, he can be backed at 7/1. Other names that seem to be challenging the favourite are Sean Dyche at 9/1 and Simon Davey also at 9/1.

Other managers that have been proposed but carry slightly longer odds are Andy Hessenthaler at 10/1, Roonie Moor at 11/1 and Steve Cotterill at 12/1.
