Online Betting to be made Legal in France

Online betting has grown rapidly in recent years, with the introduction of numerous operators offering odds on a massive variety market odds. Several traditional bookies have also opened online sites to cater for the growing number of internet users.
The french gaming market has plagued be illegal unlicensed sites for years, but now the government have decided to open the market up to foreign competition.Several billions have been lost in taxes as people have been using illegal operators to place bets.
In the current economic climate, many governments are looking for ways to generate more tax funding.
The new laws on internet gambling will be introduced in 2010, but will be discussed by the Cabinet at the end of this month.
It's estimated that as many as 25,000 illegal sites represent a huge 75% share of the market.
